US May business inventories up 0.5% mth/mth

Above expectations (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Washington, 16 Jul - US manufacturing and trade inventories rose 0.5% to 2,558.5 billion dollars in May from a month before, the US Census Bureau said.

The reading was above economists' expectations of up 0.4%.

Inventories were up 1.6% on the year.

Sales were unchanged compared to April but were up 2.0% from May 2023.

The total business inventories/sales ratio based on seasonally adjusted data at the end of May was 1.37. The May 2023 ratio was 1.38.
