Below expectations (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Washington, 01 Jul - The Institute for Supply Management's manufacturing index slipped to 48.5 in June from 48.7 in May, indicating a third consecutive month of contraction and the 19th time in the last 20 months.

Expectations were for a reading of 49.2.

Any reading over 50.0 indicates growth.

The new orders index rose to 49.3 from 45.4 the previous month while the production index fell to 48.5 from 50.2 in May.

The prices index fell to 52.1 from 57.0 in May and the employment index in June dropped to 49.3 from 51.1 the previous month.
