Higher-than-expected reading (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Washington, 17 Jun - The Federal Reserve Bank of New York's Empire State manufacturing survey rose to negative 6.0 in June from negative 15.6 in May, the Federal Reserve bank of New York said.

Any reading below 0 indicates contraction.

Economists had expected a reading of negative 12.5.

The new orders index rose to negative 1.0 from negative 16.5 in May while the shipment index increased to 3.3 in June from negative 1.2.
