Aug unemployment rate 4.2% vs 4.3% in July (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Washington, 06 Sep - US nonfarm payroll employment increased by 142,000 month on month in August, while the unemployment rate edged down to 4.2% from 4.3%, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported.

Economists were expecting employment to increase by 164,00 units and the unemployment rate was expected to ease to 4.2%.

Both the labor force participation rate, at 62.7%, and the employment-population ratio, at 60.0%, were unchanged over the month, it added.
