Above expectations (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Washington, 05 Sep - The Institute for Supply Management's index of non-manufacturing activities, a gauge of the US service sector, edged up to 51.5 in August from 51.4 in July.

Expectations were for a reading of 51.1.

A reading above 50 indicates expansion.

The business activity index fell to 53.3 from 54.5 in July, while the new orders index in August rose to 53.0 from 52.4.
