Expectations were for a 0.1% rise.

The manufacturing index rose by 0.9% and the mining index increased by 0.8%, while the index for utilities was flat.

Capacity utilization for the industrial sector moved up to 78.0% in August, a rate that is 1.7 percentage points below its long-run (1972-2023) average.

Expectations were for a reading of 77.9%.
