Above expectations (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Washington, 16 Aug - US consumer sentiment rose to 67.8 in August from 66.4 the previous month, according to preliminary data from the University of Michigan.

Expectations were for a reading of 66.7.

The current economic conditions index decreased to 60.9 from 62.7, while the index of consumer expectations rose to 72.1 from 68.8.
