UK May retail sales up 2.9% mth/mth vs down 1.8% in April

April reading revised up (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - London, 21 Jun - UK retail sales volumes rose by 2.9% month on month in May, following a fall of 1.8% in April, according to the Office for National Statistics.

The April reading was revised upwards from a fall of 2.3%.

Sales volumes rose across most sectors, with clothing retailers and furniture stores rebounding following poor weather in April.

Sales volumes rose by 1.0% in the three months to May when compared with the previous three months. However, they fell by 0.2% when compared with the three months to May 2023.
