UK June payroll employment up 0.8% yr/yr

June median monthly pay up 3.6% yr/yr (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - London, 18 Jul - In June, the number of payrolled employees in the UK rose by 0.8% compared with June 2023, a rise of 241,000 employees, according to an early estimates by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The increase was largest in the health and social work sector, a rise of 161,000 employees.

Payrolled employment increased by 16,000 employees, or 0.1%, month on month.

UK payrolled employee growth for May compared with April has been revised from a decrease of 3,000 to an increase of 54,000.

Early estimates for June indicate that median monthly pay increased by 3.6% compared with June 2023.

Annual growth in median pay in June was highest in the wholesale and retail sector, with an increase of 8.2%, and lowest in the health and social work sector, with a decrease of 8.2%. The decrease in the health and social work sector reflects the comparison with June 2023, when a pay settlement was paid to all National Health Service workers.
