Singapore July manufacturing output up 1.8% yr/yr

Ex biomedical sector output up 3.4% yr/yr (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Singapore, 26 Aug - In July, manufacturing output in Singapore rose a seasonally adjusted monthly 10.1% after falling 4.3% in June while on an annual basis it rose 1.8% also after falling 4.3% the previous month, according to data released by the Department of Statistics Singapore.

All sectors showed growth expect production in the biomedical sector that fell an annual 17.4%. The medical technology segment declined 1.6% on the back of lower export demand for medical devices, while the pharmaceuticals segment contracted 27.4% on account of a different mix of active pharmaceutical ingredients being produced compared to a year ago.

Excluding the biomedical sector, output rose 4.1% month on month and 3.4% year on year.

Total engineering production rose an annual 13.3%, precision engineering 0.7%, general manufacturing 7.3%, electronics 2.8%, and chemicals 1.7%.
