Italy May trade surplus 6.430 bln eur vs 4.767 bln yr earlier

Non-energy products surplus 10.451 bln eur vs 9.599 bln (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Rome , 16 Jul - Italy's trade surplus widened to 6.430 billion euros in May 2024 from 4.767 billion the year earlier, data from statistics institute Istat showed.

The deficit for energy products narrowed to 4.020 billion euros from 4.832 billion while the surplus for non-energy products widened to 10.451 billion euros from 9.599 billion.

In May, Italian exports fell by 3.8% compared to the previous month, reflecting a 3.3% decline in the European Union and a 4.4% fall on non-EU markets. Italian imports inched down 0.5%.

Compared to the year earlier, Italian exports in May 2024 decreased by 1.7% in monetary terms and by 3.4% in volumes.

The contraction in monetary terms reflected a 3.9% decline on EU markets and 0.6% growth on non-EU ones. Imports fell by 5.0% in value terms, with a 5.6% decline on non-EU markets and a 4.6% fall in the EU. Imports were down 4.1% year on year.
