Italy June power demand 25.7 TWh, up 1.5%

Renewables exceed fossil fuels in H1 (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Rome , 18 Jul - Italy's power demand in the month of June stood at 25.7 TWh, up 1.5% on the year earlier, data from Italian power transmission operator Terna showed.

On a seasonally, calendar and temperature adjusted basis, power consumption was up 2.3% compared to June 2023.

Terna noted that there were 20 workdays in June 2024 compared with 21 the year earlier, while the average monthly temperature was in line with the year earlier.

In the first six months of 2024, power demand increased by 1.1%. On an adjusted basis, the increase was 0.5%.

Power output from renewable energy exceeded that of fossil fuel-fired power plants for the first time for the first six months of the year, with 27.3% growth in renewables and a 19% decline in fossil fuel production, led by a 77.3% decline in coal-fired plants.
