June hydropower production up 29.4% y/yr (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Rome , 18 Jul - Terna note that renewables covered 43.8% of Italian power demand in the first half of 2024, versus 34.9% the year earlier. In June alone, renewables covered 52.5% of power demand compared to 43.8% in June 2023.

Hydropower production rose by 29.4% year on year in June 2024, while solar photovoltaic (PV) output was up 18.2% and wind grew by 29.2%. Geothermal power production fell by 2.8% and thermal power output slipped 13.7%, a direct result of the growth of renewables.

Terna noted that in the first six months of 2024, new renewable energy capacity totalling 3,691 came online in Italy, up 41% versus the year earlier.
