German economy now seen stagnating in 2024 - Ifo

2025 GDP growth forecast cut to 0.9% (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Berlin , 05 Sep - Germany's gross domestic product is expected to be flat this year, German economic research institute Ifo said in its autumn economic forecast, down from a projection of 0.4% growth in its previous estimate.

German GDP in 2025 is now seen rising 0.9%, down from prior expectations of 1.5% growth.

According to the new forecast, Ifo now expects Germany's inflation rate to fall from 5.9% in 2023 to 2.2% this year, 2.0% in 2025 and 1.9% in 2026.

Unemployment in the country is forecast at 6.0% this year, up from 5.7% in 2023, before resuming a downward trend to reach 5.8% in 2025 and 5.3% in 2026.

Germany's public deficit is expected to reach 2.0% of GDP this year before falling to 1.3% in 2025 and 0.9% in the two years after that.
