French June retail sales up adj 0.3% mth/mth - Bank of France

Q2 retail sales flat vs Q1 (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Paris, 22 Jul - In June, retail sales in France rose a seasonally and working-day adjusted 0.3% from May when they fell 0.5%, according to data released by the Bank of France.

Sales of manufactured goods increased 0.9% after falling 0.5%, boosted by sales of footwear, automobile equipment, sports equipment as a catch-up effect after activity in May was affected by holidays.

The volume of food sales declined 0.3% month-on-month after falling 0.5% the earlier month.

In terms of distribution channels, sales of small retailers were up 1.0% after falling 0.8%, while those of department stores fell 5.4% after rising 0.1%, as did those of supermarkets, down 2.0% after a 0.4% increase.

In the second quarter, retail sales were flat compared with the first three months as a decrease in manufactured goods mostly offset by an increase in food products.
