Fed's Goolsbee sees possibility rates should come down

More soft readings on inflation would raise questions (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - New York, 24 Jun - More soft readings on inflation would raise questions about whether US interest rates are too high, Chicago Federal Reserve President Austan Goolsbee told CNBC.

'If we get more months, like what we have just seen in the last month on inflation, coupled with slowing conditions in some of the other parts of the real economy, then you would have to start questioning should we remain as restrictive as we've been,' Goolsbee told CNBC's 'Squawk Box.' The Fed official declined to say when he thought rate cuts might be appropriate, but said he was 'hopeful' that the inflation rate was heading back to the Fed's 2% goal.

Goolsbee does not vote this year on the rate-setting Federal Open Market Committee.
