Eurozone May current account surplus unchanged at 37 bln eur
12-mths to May current account surplus 349 bln eur, 2.4%/GDP (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Frankfurt, 19 Jul - The eurozone in May posted a current account surplus of 37 billion euros, unchanged from April, bringing the total for the 12 months to May to 349 billion euros, or 2.4% of gross domestic product (GDP) after a balanced account a year ago, according to data released by the European Central Bank.
The May figure reflects surpluses for goods (33 billion euros), services (15 billion) and primary income (4 billion), partly offset by a deficit for secondary income (14 billion).
The change in the 12 months to May reflects a shift from a deficit (1 billion euros) to a surplus (347 billion) for goods and, to a lesser extent, by a smaller deficit for secondary income (down from 172 billion to 166 billion) and a larger surplus for services (up from 131 billion to 134 billion). These developments were partly offset by a reduction in the surplus for primary income (down from 42 billion to 34 billion).
