Sentiment deteriorates in Germany, Italy (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Brussels , 29 Aug - In August, the Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) in the eurozone rose by 0.6 points compared to July to reach 96.6, while in the European Union it increased 0.4 points to 96.9.

The increase in the EU ESI reflected improved confidence in industry, services and retail trade, while confidence among consumers and in construction remained broadly stable.

For the largest EU economies, the ESI improved the most markedly in France (up 4.3 points). It also improved significantly for Spain (up 1.3 points) and the Netherlands (up 0.9 points), while for Poland the ESI recorded only a slight increase (up 0.3 points). The ESI deteriorated for Germany (down 1.7 points) and Italy (down 1.2 points).
