EU Q1 current account surplus 134.3 bln eur vs 89.8 bln in Q4

Q1 surplus of goods account 113.5 bln eur vs 66.5 bln in Q4 (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Brussels , 04 Jul - In the first quarter of 2024, the European Union posted a seasonally adjusted current account surplus of 134.3 billion euros, or 3.1% of GDP, up from 89.8 billion, or 2.1% of GDP, in the previous quarter, data from EU statistical office Eurostat showed.

In the first quarter of 2023, the bloc's current account surplus stood at 55.2 billion euros, or 1.3% of GDP.

In the first quarter of 2024 compared with the previous quarter and based on seasonally adjusted data, the surplus of the EU's goods account increased to 113.5 billion euros from 66.5 billion while the surplus of the services account decreased to 38.4 billion from 43.8 billion. The surplus of the primary income account increased to 5.5 billion euros from 2.3 billion while the deficit of the secondary income account increased to 23.0 billion from 22.8 billion.
