EU June new car registrations 1.09 mln units, up 4.3%

H1 car registrations almost 5.7 mln units, up 4.5% (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Paris, 18 Jul - In June, new car registrations in the European Union rose 4.3% to 1.09 million units driven by a 15.1% jump in Italy, a 6.1% rise in Germany and 2.2 in Spain, while France bucked the trend with a 4.8% contraction, according to data released by manufacturers' association Acea.

In the first half of 2024, new car registrations increased by 4.5%, reaching nearly 5.7 million units. However, registration volumes remain relatively low (-18%) compared to pre-pandemic levels. The bloc's largest markets all showed positive but modest performance, with Spain (+5.9%), Germany (+5.4%), Italy (+5.4%), and France (+2.8%) all recording growth.

Battery-electric cars accounted for 14.4% of the EU car market, down from 15.1% the previous year. Hybrid-electric vehicles increased their market share, growing from 24.4% to 29.5%. The combined share of petrol and diesel cars fell to 47.1%, down from 49.6%.
