EU July new car registrations 852,051 units, up 0.2%
Jan-July registrations up 3.9% from low comparison base (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Paris, 29 Aug - In July, new car registrations in the European Union inched up 0.2% to 852,051 units, bringing the total for the first seven months of the year to over 6.5 million units, up 3.9% as a result of a low comparison base, according to data released by manufacturers' association ACEA.
In the month, a 4.7% rise in Italy and a 3.4% increase in Spain offset a 2.3% drop in France and a 2.1% decline in Germany.
Since January, the bloc's largest markets all showed positive but modest performance, with Spain (+5.6%), Italy (+5.2%), Germany (+4.3%), and France (+2.2%) all recording growth.
Battery-electric cars accounted for 12.1% of the EU car market, down from 13.5% the previous year. Hybrid-electric vehicles increased their market share, growing from 25.5% to 32%. The combined share of petrol and diesel cars fell to 46% from 50%.
In July, registrations of battery-electric (BEV) cars declined by 10.8% to 102,705 units. Plug-in hybrid car registrations saw a decline (-14.1%) last month, despite a 3.2% increase in Germany. Hybrid-electric vehicles saw 25.7% growth to 273,003 units with all four of the largest markets for this segment recorded double-digit gains.
