Canada June unemployment 6.4%, up 0.2 pct pts vs May

Employment rate 61.1%, down 0.2 pct pts (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Ottawa, 05 Jul - Canada's unemployment rate increased 0.2 percentage points month on month to 6.4% in June and has risen 1.3 percentage points since April 2023, according to Statistics Canada.

Employment was virtually unchanged in June, falling by 1,400 people month on month, and the employment rate fell 0.2 percentage points to 61.1%.

Total hours worked were down 0.4% in June. On a year-over-year basis, total hours worked were up 1.1%.

Average hourly wages among employees increased 5.4% in June on a year-over-year basis, following growth of 5.1% in May.
