Employment up 0.1% mth/mth (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Ottawa, 06 Sep - In August, Canada's unemployment rate rose 0.2 percentage points month on month to 6.6%, according to Statistics Canada.

Employment rose by 22,000 people , or 0.1%, but the employment rate decreased 0.1 percentage points to 60.8%.

Total hours worked were little changed in August (-0.1%) but were up 1.4% compared with 12 months earlier.

Average hourly wages among employees increased 5.0%, or 1.69 local dollars, on a year-over-year basis to 35.16 dollars, following growth of 5.2% in July.
