Canada April retail sales up 0.7% mth/mth

Total 66.8 bln dlr (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Ottawa, 21 Jun - In April, Canadian retail sales increased 0.7% month on month to 66.8 billion local dollars, according to Statistics Canada.

Sales were up in seven of nine subsectors and were led by increases at gasoline stations and fuel vendors as well as food and beverage retailers.

Core retail sales, which exclude gasoline stations and fuel vendors and motor vehicle and parts dealers, were up 1.4% in April.

In volume terms, retail sales increased 0.5% in April.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, retail e-commerce sales were down 0.1% month on month to 4.0 billion dollars in April, accounting for 6.0% of total retail trade.
