Australia CPI up 3.5% in 12 mths to July vs 3.8% in June

Underlying CPI 3.7% vs 4.0% (Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Sydney, 28 Aug - In the 12 months to July, consumer prices in Australia rose 3.5%, down from 3.8% in June, according to the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

The most significant contributors to the annual rise were Housing (up 4.0%), Food and non-alcoholic beverages (up 3.8%), Alcohol and tobacco (up 7.2%), and Transport (up 3.4%).

Excluding Automotive fuel, Fruit and vegetables, and Holiday travel, underlying inflation was 3.7%, down from 4.0% the earlier month.
